We're hiring!

Support Worker - 16 Hours Per Week and Bank/Ad Hoc (Zero Hours)

As a Support Worker at Unity Reach, you will be part of a dedicated team responsible for delivering high-quality support to individuals with learning disabilities, ensuring their needs are met while promoting independence, confidence, and daily living skills. 


Unity Reach operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, meaning working evenings, weekends, and overnight sleep-in duties is essential. You must be flexible and able to work within the rota system, ensuring service users receive consistent support whenever needed. 


Your role will involve: 

  • Supporting service users in their daily routines, assisting with decision-making, and promoting confidence and independence. 
  • Taking initiative and problem-solving when challenges arise, ensuring the smooth daily operation of the home. 
  • Providing structured and person-centred support while understanding when to escalate concerns or seek input from managers, directors, or family members. 
  • Contributing to household management, ensuring the home remains safe, well-maintained, and organised. 


This role does not currently involve personal care, but you must be adaptable to potential changes in service user needs. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. 


As this role involves travel between locations, a full UK driving licence and access to a personal vehicle is essential at all times. Mileage expenses will be reimbursed.

  • Are you willing and able to travel with service users, in your own car, and will have business car insurance to cover this?


  • Are you willing to undertake all training required?


  • Do you have strong communication and interpersonal skills, essential for working with service users, colleagues, and external professionals?


  • Are you able to work over the 24/7 period, including overnight shifts?

Volunteer!

Want to do something incredible for somebody else, with your spare time?

As a volunteer, you can assist us by: 


  • Acting as a buddy for a service user, on a group or on a one-to-one basis to support independent living 
  • Assisting service users with their interests (not including anything in the exclusion list below) 
  • Assisting with transportation (not driving duties) with other members of staff or on public transport  
  • Cleanliness and tidying
  • Gardening and general outside tidiness  


Volunteers will not be asked to support the following: 

  • Managing money – volunteers can attend outings with service users but must return all receipts to a member of staff to process this 
  • Medication support 
  • Advocacy for service users 
  • Overnight work and sleep-ins 
  • Medical appointments 
  • Updating communication logs 
  • Meal or food preparations 
  • Driving duties 
  • Decision making for service users 


Volunteers are expected to complete all training requirements and have a clear Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check.
